A METAL VASE that once lived in a household wanted all the other silverware to be in awe of its beautiful flowers. “I want everyone to stare at me!”, the vase boasted and made sure that he picked only the most colorful and eye-catching flowers that could be found in the garden. As soon as he had caught other's attention, however, he felt little motivation in keeping them fresh. No sooner had a couple of days passed and they began to wilt.
"I have to find a way to keep them fresh with no water", the vase thought one day, and started examining possible solutions. "Why don't you try artificial flowers?", the candle suggested. The vase then thought about it a bit and decided it was the proper solution, as this way he would neither have to water them, nor pick new ones every week. He, then, visited every flower shop in the city to look for fake flowers to buy. After a thorough research, he chose foam roses which were cheaper, then gathered as many of them as possible and formed a bouquet which he took home full of enthusiasm, thinking the silverware would be impressed. "How come they are all the same?", the mirror wondered, shouting angrily at him as soon as he realized he had taken the fake flowers for real: "You're fooling us!". Disappointed that his trick had not worked, the next day the vase visited the flower shop again. He then bought artificial flowers made of fabric, which offered a much bigger variety and looked dissimilar. He chose the finest and made a bouquet. As soon as he took them to the cashier, however, their weight brought him down, and he felt tired of holding them. "It won't matter once I'm on the table", he whispered to himself, then went straight back home and sat in his usual position. No sooner had a few minutes passed, however, and he was already worn out by their weight. "I'm really sorry but I can't hold on for much longer", the vase admitted as everybody realized that something was wrong with the flowers and that were unnaturally heavy. Then they burst into laughter. The third time, the vase bought the most expensive flowers of all: real flowers dipped in wax to make them last longer. He gave all his money, made a bouquet of the best looking of them and then went straight back home. To make sure nobody would realize them even, he bought a small bottle with flower scents so as to spray them and make them look fresh. He, then, sat on the table and waited. Much to his surprise, this time his trick worked. Soon all the silverware of the house gathered around him to smell the beautiful bouquet he had made. "Your flowers are more beautiful than ever!", said the frame, then took one and smelled it, the beautiful scent bringing beautiful memories to its mind. The housewife then appeared, who switched the central heating on. Only a few minutes later and as the house got warmer, the fake wax flowers melted to the point that the wax dripped off. They then wilted and a foul stench emanated from them. “More fake flowers...?", the frame asked with surprise. Then the other silverware laughed at the terrible sight, until the housewife finally appeared who threw the flowers away and cleaned the vase from the wax that had fallen on the table. So ashamed did the vase get, that from that day on decided to only gather flowers straight from the garden and to water them diligently so as to make sure they keep their real freshness for days....
